Checkpoint 3a question
The Million Dollar Office
MORE×EACH=$1,000,000

What would have to be true to build a $1,000,000 office?

The ODI is one answer. It works on both sides of the equation.

MORE
Create more opportunities
  • More interview times available. The first part of the interview happens on demand, at any hour, with no interviewer in the room.
  • More people stay in the funnel. Recruits stay engaged between the FIRE conversation and the interview.
MORE asks: "How do we create more chances?"
EACH
Maximize each opportunity
  • Make each interview create belief, commitment and proper expectations. They arrive knowing what we do and why it matters to them.
  • Get the right people. Recruits choose their goal and show their best selves.
  • Every recruit hears our best words, no matter who's interviewing.
EACH asks: "What do we do with each chance?"

The 8 checkpoints. Where does the ODI move the numbers?

Click a checkpoint. At each one, ask: is this true in your office?

TOOLS
What can we build or provide?

An on-demand interview that runs the same way every time, on any phone, at any hour.

WORDS
What are great people saying that we can capture and spread?

The videos and questions capture what our best managers already say. Every recruit hears it.

SKILL
What abilities can we develop?

Managers walk into the interview with context, so their skill goes to listening, judgment and connection.

Core principle

Skill should create upside, not rescue the system.

"If you're the major COG in the machine, you're the major CLOG in the machine." The ODI is the system. The manager's skill is the upside.

Where it fits

Between FIRE and the interview. The ODI makes it count.

The FIRE conversation books the interview. The ODI link goes out right after. There's no booking link at the end, because the time is already set. The ODI's job is to get them there, and get them there ready.

The 5 S's of the ODI

Both versions follow the same five moves. Learn these and you know the ODI.

The analogy

It's a museum tour.

Everyone walks the main hall. Then each visitor picks the side galleries that interest them. And there's an exit sign in every room, so nobody feels trapped.

The underemployment video is the special exhibit. It's shown to anyone who says experience matters to them.

The one decision

Do we ask "What brings you here?" before or after the WHAT WE DO video?

Version A

Sort first

Ask before WHAT WE DO

Strengths

  • Fast and clear from the first click
  • Experience-seekers hit the underemployment story right away
  • Every video after the sort can speak to their goal

Watch out

  • They pick a path before any belief is built
  • The choice is made with less information
vs
Version B

Hook first

Ask after WHAT WE DO

Strengths

  • Belief before choosing: they see the opportunity first
  • A better-informed answer to "What brings you here?"
  • Feels like an interview, not a form

Watch out

  • The sort comes one video later
  • WHAT WE DO has to earn their attention

Where do you land?

Slide toward what matters most to you. It's a thinking tool, not a vote counter.

It's a toss-up
Both versions use the same videos. Try each one, then come back.
Three extras

Built into B. They'd work in A, too.

These aren't part of the one decision. Each one can go in either version. Play with them.

EXTRA 01

A progress bar on the menu

The optional videos become a menu, not a maze. People finish what they can see.

EXTRA 02

They pick 2 questions for the call

The recruit sets part of the agenda. That builds ownership before the call starts.

EXTRA 03

A briefing card for the manager

Every answer is saved. The manager reads one card and walks in ready.

For the team

Questions to bring to the discussion

1. What should the right applicant believe, feel and be committed to by the end of a great interview?+
This is the checkpoint 3b question from the $1M Conversation. Build the ODI backward from the answer. Every video and question should move a recruit toward it before the interview starts.
2. How do we help applicants reveal the best version of themselves?+
Also checkpoint 3b. The brag branch and the "three months" question give recruits room to shine. The briefing card (Version B) puts it in front of their future mentor.
3. Sort before or after WHAT WE DO?+
This is the one real fork. A is faster and clearer. B builds belief before anyone picks a path. Which matters more for the recruits you talk to every week?
4. Which of the three extras do we keep?+
The progress bar, the 2 questions for the call and the manager briefing card can each go into either version. The briefing card is the strongest of the three, because it's how the call starts warm.
5. Are the three sort labels right?+
"Flexible income, starting now." "Gain meaningful work experience." "Both, if possible." They're about goals, not about who someone is. Would a recruit see themselves in one of them within two seconds?
6. Why do options 2 and 3 get the underemployment video?+
Because it's the clearest answer to "why experience now?" More than half of grads are underemployed a year out, and most of them still are ten years later. Graduate experienced is the answer. It comes with one question: "Picture the next three months going perfectly. What could you do then that you can't do today?"
7. Why is "I'm ready for my call" only available after the required 3?+
The three required videos are the minimum a recruit needs to have a great call. After that, the choice is theirs. Ready people leave early, and curious people go deeper.
8. What happens next?+
Pick a version and the extras. Then capture our best managers' words in the videos (short, one idea each) and write the questions. The final build moves to the LMS with the same functionality you see in these demos.
